AERA 2017 Annual Meeting-Graduate Student News

  1. Sign up to take part in the Lunch with a Motivation Researcher Program! Every year at AERA, the SIG gives graduate students an opportunity to have lunch with an experienced motivation researcher. This year, we have a great line-up of researchers who will host lunches: Bernard Weiner, Judith Harackiewicz, Reinhard Pekrun, Mimi Bong, Julie Turner, and Akane Zusho.

This is a great opportunity for graduate to get to know researchers who have defined the field and to talk about shared interests in a fun, informal setting. Advisors, please send this information along to your doctoral students so they can take advantage of this awesome opportunity. Not all students are aware of the program, and we give preference to those who have never attended a lunch before.

Interested students can click on this link to indicate their first, second, and third choices for lunch. The deadline to sign up for the program is April 3, 2017. Make sure to sign up by the deadline, because the program is very popular!

  2. Looking for more ways to get involved at AERA? There’s still time to sign up to be a mentors or mentees for the Motivation Mentors program! We pair first-time AERA attendees with returning SIG students who can help them navigate the conference. It’s a great chance for students to meet someone with shared research interests and get to know others in the SIG a lot better. Please spread the word to new students in your labs to sign up, and sign up yourself as a mentor OR to be mentored using this link.
  3. Visit http://aera.net to register to attend the Motivation SIG dinner social event. The annual SIG dinner social is a great way for graduate students to talk informally with fellow students and with established motivation researchers on Sunday, April 30, at 8 p.m. at Rio Rio Cantina, 421 E Commerce St, San Antonio (http://riorioriverwalk.com/ ). The cost of the dinner is $35.00. To register for the SIG dinner, visit the AERA registration portal (same place you registered) and simply look for our MotSIG dinner under the “Events” tab on the registration page. This is a popular event, and space is limited, so please register early.
  4. We’ll be joining Div C & Div E on Saturday 4/29 from 9-10:30 pm at the Davenport (203 North Pressa St, San Antonio, TX 78205). All students will get 1 free drink (beer, martini, or cocktail) and can choose to purchase from a variety of food items. It’s about a 15 minute walk to the convention center.
